Monitoring of topsoil removal was undertaken intermittently from September 2011 in advance of construction of the N3 Belturbet to Butlersbridge Road Scheme. Previous testing (A039/E3427) was undertaken by Derek Gallagher in 2007 and followed by full excavation of the recorded sites in 2008 (Excavations 2008, nos 97–100). The current works involve monitoring of peat and topsoil removal at locations where testing was not undertaken. No sites of archaeological significance were noted in monitoring in 2011. It is expected that the bulk of construction works will be undertaken from spring 2012.
