As part of a proposed construction of a small housing development by McIlhaw Properties at Quarter Road, Carrickcroppan, Camlough, monitoring was undertaken of Phase 1 works on the site. A possible rath site (ARM026-033) within the boundaries of the development is located in an area currently excluded from the present development and will remain as a public amenity green space in any further development of the site.

The site had previously been subject to a programme of archaeological evaluation which had identified a number of potential archaeological features (Excavations 2008, no. 53, AE/08/86).

The current phase of works is concentrated in the south-western corner of the site, with the remainder of the site to be developed at a later date. While the results of the evaluation suggested that there might have been surviving archaeological deposits within the area, it became clear during the monitoring that these were either of a post-medieval date or non-archaeological in origin. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during this phase of works.
