An assessment was undertaken near Bessbrook in advance of a residential development. Thirteen test trenches were excavated across the site, with a combined length of 670m. These were mechanically excavated to subsoil at locations agreed with the NIEA. A mill-race depicted on the 1st-edition OS Map (1835) was located through the centre of the site, extending to a depth of 1.8m and 4–6m in width. No additional archaeological finds or features were identified during this assessment.
