Test trenching was undertaken using a mechanical digger with a flat-edged ‘sheugh’ bucket. The overburden consisted of disturbed topsoil and small quantities of building waste. The subsoil was reached at a depth of 0.6m to the south-west, grading to 0.2m to the north-east. No archaeological features were present within the subsoil and no archaeological artefacts were recovered from the matrix of the overburden. The potential archaeological feature identified from the aerial photographs of the site was not encountered during the test trenching and it is assumed that this feature was an article of temporary modern disturbance that happened to be on the site when the aerial photograph was taken and was then later removed.
