Moyne Middle 3 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in a field in pasture which slopes down from south to north to the Hollyfort tributary at the western boundary.
Excavations revealed a burnt-stone mound with associated troughs and pits.
The burnt-stone mound, which measured 14m (east to west) by 9m, was located adjacent to the stream and continued beyond the limit of excavation. The burnt-stone material was 0.42m thick and consisted of firm black coarse sandy material which contained a high quantity of heat-shattered sandstone. Separate smaller deposits of material nearby indicated reuse of the site.
Two troughs were identified beneath the burnt-stone spread, close to the limit of excavation, one of which was timber-lined. This subrectangular trough, which measured 2.28m by 1.8m and was 0.6m deep, had sloping sides with timber planks lining the flat base.
Part of a second trough was recorded to the north side of the timber-lined feature and continued beyond the limit of excavation. This trough measured 1.6m east to west and was 0.83m deep.
A circular pit, 0.6m in diameter and 0.2m deep, was uncovered to the south of the timber-lined trough and contained burnt-stone material.
To the south of the main burnt-stone mound was a single subcircular pit measuring 0.85m by 0.8m and 0.18m deep. This pit contained a high quantity of stone as well as evidence of in situ burning.
A linear boundary ditch, which was orientated north to south, traversed the site for a length of 17m.
