M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in pasture, close to a holy well and a stream.
Three burnt-stone spreads were recorded, consisting of a single deposit each, presumably the remnants of a once larger spread. These spreads were small (2.3m x 0.5–0.9 x 0.08–0.11m; 1.5m x 0.4m x 0.06m; 3.8m x 0.9m x 0.12m) and were clustered around a probable trough. The trough measured 1.94m x 1.66m x 0.48m, and was subcircular in plan with steep and slightly convex sides and a flat base. Three large flat stones were located at the base of the trough and presumably acted as a lining for the feature. The trough contained four fills, a primary fill of sandy silt with small angular stones, a secondary fill of silty clay with frequent stones and charcoal, a tertiary fill of clayey silt with frequent stones and charcoal, and an upper fill of silty clay with frequent small angular stones. These fills were presumably associated with burnt-stone-generating activity. It is likely that these features represent disturbed remnants of fulacht fiadh-type activity. Similar activity was recorded in nearby sites, Mountgeorge 1 and 2 (see Nos 792–3 above) and Mountgeorge 4 and 5 (see No. 795 below).
