Mountgeorge 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in pasture close to a stream.
A winding relict stream, 2–4m wide and 0.2–0.6m deep, cut through the centre of the site. The profile of this feature was characterised by gradual breaks of slope, steep concave sides and a concave base. The stream was filled with burnt-stone deposits, silts and redeposited natural. A sub-oval pit (1.26m x 0.95m x 0.26m) was recorded approximately 4.5m north-east of the stream. This feature had near vertical sides and a flat base, and was filled with a sandy gravel lower fill and an upper fill of clay with frequent pebbles. A small burnt-stone spread (1.2m x 1.02m x 0.02m), consisting of a single deposit, was located west of the pit. It is possible that these features represent disturbed remnants of fulacht fiadh-type activity. Similar activity was recorded in nearby sites, Mountgeorge 2, 3, 4 and 5 (see Nos 793–5 below).
