Monroe 4 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in an undulating field which contains a shallow valley orientated north–south beyond the western limits of the road scheme. This valley was marked as containing a stream on early mapping. Five burnt-spread sites (Monroe 1–5) were identified along the eastern bank of the stream.
A small shallow burnt spread, measuring 2.35m by 1.8m and 0.2m deep, was identified in the north-east corner of Monroe 4. The spread was loose, dark-grey clayey sand which contained a high quantity of charcoal and heat-affected stone. This spread was considerably disturbed due to intense agricultural activity. A trough associated with this burnt spread was truncated by a modern linear drainage ditch. The irregularly shaped trough, which measured 2.08m by 2.3m and was 0.48m deep, had steep sides and a flat base. It was filled with loose clay sand which contained a high quantity of heat-shattered stone and charcoal.
A modern linear drainage ditch was located along the western side of the site.
