Kilcannon 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was identified in an L-shaped field which slopes from the centre of the field towards the north-western extent. There is a low plateau approximately 20m wide at this point.
Kilcannon 1 consisted of a burnt mound measuring 9.4m by 9.15m and 0.35m deep. A stone-lined trough and 74 stake-holes were identified beneath the burnt spread. The trough, which was 1.5m long and 0.15m deep, was located in a very shallow cut and was partially collapsed. The stone lining in the trough formed an enclosing box within the cut. The 74 stake-holes formed a group 1.8m east of the trough and may represent a windbreak.
