Crane 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in a field which slopes down gently to the north towards a stream. The subsoil is predominantly sandy silt and silt sand. The site was situated close to the river in the lowest part of the field.
A burnt spread, measuring 3.3m by 2.3m with a depth of 0.3m, was composed of two deposits. The lower deposit was compact dark-brown/black silt which contained burnt-stone and charcoal inclusions. The upper deposit was compact mid-yellow/grey sandy clay which contained charcoal flecks. No pit or trough was recorded below the burnt spread.
A north-west/south-east-aligned linear ditch traversed the site. The north-west terminus of the ditch joins the bank of the River Crane. One sherd of post-medieval pottery was recorded from the main ditch fill. The outline of this ditch was evident beyond the limits of excavation. It is likely that this ditch represents a post-medieval field boundary.
