Corbally 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in a field which is level at its northern extent but slopes dramatically southwards, where again it changes to a gentle undulating slope.
A kiln, which was roughly L-shaped, was identified at Corbally 1. The kiln was 2.25m long and 1.15m wide with a depth of 0.18m. The bowl was orientated east to west and the flue was orientated north to south. Evidence of scorching was seen at the entrance to the chamber from the flue. Loose charcoal-rich (80%) grey/brown/black silt clay covered the heat-affected area. A number of medium to large stones were recorded on the base of the kiln indicating a possible collapsed stone lining. Over the charcoal-rich fill and the stones was yellow/brown moderately compact silt sand which contained charcoal flecks. The flue, which was 1.98m long, 0.53m wide and 0.18m deep, was connected to the chamber at the north-east. The flue fill was soft light-grey/brown clay silt which contained flecks of charcoal at the southern edge. At the northern end of the flue the upper fill consisted of soft yellow/grey clay silt which contained occasional flecks of charcoal. Below this was medium compacted dark-brown silt clay with occasional charcoal flecks. One set stone which was located at the junction of the flue and chamber, was also visible and this may have acted as a baffle stone.
