Coolnahorna 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was identified in a long rectangular field set for pasture. It is likely that Coolnahorna 1 is related to Coolnahorna 2 and 3 (see Nos 737 and 738 below), as they were located in the same field.
The Coolnahorna 1 excavation revealed fourteen pits, one stake-hole, five post-holes, three furrows and a single oxidised deposit. The features were isolated and did not form an obvious pattern. Twenty-four pieces of prehistoric pottery were recovered, as were two pieces of flint and one ferrous object. The site probably either represents a temporary site or is on the periphery of a larger settlement located beyond the limit of excavation.
Modern agricultural activity was also evident at the site. Three plough furrows, orientated north-west to south-east which yielded a total of three prehistoric pottery fragments.
