Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a single dwelling-house on a greenfield site at Coolhull, Bannow, Co. Wexford. The site is located to the south of WX046–028, a fortified house.
The monitoring undertaken involved the removal of topsoil from the footprint of the house pad and its driveway as well as the excavation of the house foundations. Although a number of sherds of medieval pottery were recovered from the topsoil removed from the site, no features of an archaeological nature were uncovered beneath the topsoil layer.
It is foreseen that further groundworks at the site will be monitored in 2011.
