Clavass 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme and comprised a single pit. The subcircular pit was 3.9m long (east to west), 3.75m wide and 0.65m deep with steep sides and a flat base. The pit contained four fills. Two primary fills were recorded: one was loose mid-grey clayey silt with occasional charcoal and was interpreted as natural silting. The other primary fill consisted of loose brown/yellow silty sand and was interpreted as slippage at the side of the pit. The secondary fill consisted of angular and sub-angular stones and one large boulder. Ploughmarks were visible on some of the stones, suggesting a post-medieval or modern date. The upper fill was loose grey/brown sandy silt with occasional angular stones.
It is likely that this pit was a stone dump related to post-medieval or modern field clearance.
