Ballynahallin 2 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was situated in a very large tilled field. The site is located in a relatively flat part of the field. Directly east of the CPO the ground slopes down sharply towards the Slaney River valley.
A possible flare-clamp, circular in plan, measured 4m in diameter and had a U-shaped profile, reaching a maximum depth of 2m. The charcoal kiln presented evidence of in situ burning in two phases of activity, defined by two layers of oxidised clay, separated by loose black charcoal-rich silty clay.
A drain or flue was identified off-setting at a perpendicular angle from the south-east edge of the clamp. The drain was 3.7m wide, 1.5m deep and at least 5.7m long, continuing beyond the limit of excavation. The base of this feature was lined by loose black charcoal-rich silty clay, which was similar to the charcoal-rich fills within the clamp.
