Stage (i) testing was undertaken within the footprint of the N11 Gorey north service area scheme, Co. Wexford, between 14 and 21 June 2010. A total of 10,141 linear metres were excavated during this phase of testing.
Two archaeological sites were discovered during the course of the works. Ballyellin 1 appeared to be a rectangular structure with evidence of metalworking activity. Ballyellin 2 seemed to comprise a curvilinear gully and a number of pits. Both sites were excavated by Gill McLoughlin under ministerial direction E4146 (Ballyellin 1, see No. 701, Excavations 2010) and E4147 (Ballyellin 2, see No. 702, Excavations 2010).
