Balloughter 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. The site was identified in a field under crop that slopes downwards from the south-east.
Balloughter 1 consisted of the heavily ploughed-out remains of a burnt mound which was identified between modern field drainage features. A subrectangular trough measuring 2.55m by 1.85m was also revealed but was truncated by a modern drain. The trough had vertical sides, a flat base and a maximum depth of 0.35m. Loose dark-grey sandy silt and a high quantity of heat-affected stones filled the trough.
