Ballinclay 1 was located on the proposed M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy scheme. This site was situated in grassland sloping down from north to south. Natural outcrops of bedrock were visible across the slope of the field.
Ballinclay 1 consisted of a single oval pit measuring 1.9m by 1.7m and 0.13m deep, with sloping sides and a concave base. Evidence of in situ burning was identified at the base. A thin lens of black charcoal-rich silty clay was recorded above this burning. The main fill of this pit was a loose mid-brown silty deposit which contained charcoal flecks.
Three modern ditches or boundaries were also identified at the site.
