Monitoring took place of groundworks in advance of the construction of a single-storey building by Waterford City Council to facilitate start-up businesses for artisan glass-making. The site had already been tested (by the writer, Excavations 2003, No. 1927, 03E0694; and subsequently by C. Sheehan with Ó Scully under extension to that licence for additional pre-development testing, Excavations 2004, No. 1694).
The building was designed to have minimal impact on any surviving archaeological elements identified in testing. In the south-west of the site some walls and floor surfaces of the building shown on the 1872 OS town map were exposed. These were not disturbed by the building, as a layer of hardcore was introduced over the site. Service trenches 1m deep did not impact on any archaeological deposits.
