Test-trenching was carried out as part of a pre-development assessment of the lands to be impacted on by a nursing home development at Newtown House, Tramore. The late 18th-century house is listed in the Waterford County Council’s Record of Protected Structures (RPS 264) but is not included in the RMP for the county. The construction of the 18th-century house, in conjunction with modern extensions, outbuildings, swimming pool, tennis court and tree planting, has caused significant disturbance of the soil profiles within the site. No archaeological deposits or artifacts were identified in the test-trenches.
