Testing of a proposed development site at Ballycarnane, Tramore, Co. Waterford, was carried out at the request of the Department of Education and Science, who own the site. The proposed development consists of the construction of a post-primary school and associated site works on a greenfield site. A previous assessment of the site did not identify any unrecorded monuments within the proposed development area, nor are any monuments located within close proximity to the site boundary. A total of 35 test-trenches were excavated throughout the five fields which comprise the proposed development area. Three burnt spreads were partially exposed in Trenches 7, 12 and 35. A possible pit filled with burnt-mound material was also exposed in Trench 30. A photographic and descriptive record of the burnt spreads was made, but no further investigation of the features took place.
