Moore Marine was commissioned by IAC Ltd to carry out an underwater impact assessment in advance of the construction of river intake works at Anner River, Killusty North, Co. Tipperary. The survey comprised a visual and metal-detection survey of the riverbed and visual inspection of the area surrounding the watercourse. The work was commissioned in order to determine the archaeological potential of the area and how the archaeological resource would be affected by the proposed development, and to recommend further action.
The assessment concluded that there was no significant archaeological material at the site. The metal-detection survey did, however, record a number of subsurface contacts within the riverbed. Therefore it is recommended that any spoil removed from the riverbed during construction works be spread and metal detected for potential artifact retrieval.
