Monitoring was carried out at a site in Holycross village. The site, which is intended for use as a community childcare facility, is located to the rear (north) of the existing national school, and is positioned within the designated zone of archaeological potential for Holycross village.
Numerous archaeological monuments and sites are recorded nearby, including Holycross Abbey and related medieval features (TN047–030). The development site is located immediately to the south of remnant ecclesiastical remains identified in the vicinity of the Church of Ireland church (TN047–110).
Monitoring was carried out in September 2010. Foundation trenches, a soak pit and service trenches were excavated. No archaeological material/features were recorded, however. No evidence associated with the ecclesiastical remains to the north of the site was revealed.
