Groundworks involved the excavation of a section of pipeline that ran from a point along the third-class road to the immediate south-south-west of the village near Cashelmonastragh church, and graveyard (SL046–014001) and continued north-north-east to a point past the rear of St Aiden’s RC Church, Monasteraden (RPS194). Monitoring of the trench excavations exposed a stratigraphy of tarmac and gravel road base overlying natural boulder clay with occasional large stones. Elsewhere where the new trench connected with the cut for the previously installed main there was a layer of redeposited natural clay underlying gravel aggregate. No finds, features or materials of archaeological significance were recorded.
