Test excavation was undertaken at the site of a proposed development in Warren or Drum, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, on 11 and 12 November 2010 on behalf of Mulryan Construction Ltd. The proposed development site was located on the north-facing slope of a steep hill to the south-east of the town of Boyle; it is roughly rectangular in plan and is currently under pasture. The site is within an area of archaeological interest and the town of Boyle is a recorded archaeological monument (RO006–068). The site is located within close proximity to several sites of historic and architectural interest which include the 12th-century Boyle Abbey and the 18th-century King House.
Seventeen test-trenches were excavated at the site (equivalent to 1000 linear metres). A modern rubbish spread and an adjacent burnt pit were uncovered during the testing. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered.
