The main body of the site comprised a large kidney-shaped burnt mound or waste from activity carried out in the associated rectangular wood-lined trough. Bockagh 1 was located close to a cluster of other burnt mounds in Bockagh townland at Bockagh 2, 3 and 4 (see Nos 565–7, Excavations 2010).
