Testing was undertaken in advance of the N5 Ballaghaderreen bypass, Co. Roscommon. The work, untaken on behalf of Roscommon County Council, took place between 3 and 16 August 2010.
A total of 12,857 linear metres were excavated within the three areas to be tested (Areas 5–7). Two sites of archaeological significance were recorded in Area 7: Toobrackan 3 and Toobrackan 4.
Toobrackan 3 comprised a single pit measuring 1.2m in diameter and 0.25m in depth. It was filled with a black charcoal-rich silty clay with inclusions of heat-affected stones. An area measuring 6m x 5m was opened around this pit. Toobrackan 4 comprised a cluster of pits. They were spaced over an area of approximately 10m x 8m.
