Testing was carried out on the site of a proposed sports facility in the townland of Liseggerton to the north-west of Clones, Co. Monaghan. The proposed development area (approximately 5.6ha) is largely greenfield and slopes markedly from the north and south boundaries, forming a valley in the centre of the site through which runs a drain. There is a sports field to the east and a car park just off the adjacent Church Hill road. Approximately 1130m of test-trenches were excavated at the site. No archaeological sites or objects were recorded during this assessment. The findings of the current phase of assessment, which included geophysical survey and test-trenching, and the previous desk-based and field survey suggest that significant archaeological deposits are not present within this site.
