Test-trenching was carried out on this site on foot of a request for further information from Meath County Council. The site is located to the west of the Hill of Tara with its associated monuments and to the east of the linear earthwork (ME031–040) in Riverstown townland.
Sod and ploughsoil layers were bottomed 0.3m–0.5m below present ground level. Subsoil comprised mixed yellow, brown and grey clays, some containing lenses of sand. There were inclusions of stone and decayed stone.
Earthenware drainage pipes were exposed in three of the trenches. They lay at c. 0.4m below the present ground level. In the sections that were exposed the upper surfaces of the pipes remained unbroken, suggesting that they were not disturbed when the field was ploughed in the last ten years. Material of archaeological significance was not exposed in the trenches.
