Test excavations took place at Gortaroe townland on the north-east outskirts of Westport, Co. Mayo, on 14 September 2010. This work was in compliance with a grant of planning from Mayo County Council in relation to an application for a proposed enterprise centre. The trenches revealed that landscaping associated with the existing IDA park had removed most of the original stratigraphy. Nothing of archaeological significance was found.
