Test excavations were carried out at the site of a proposed housing development in the village of Belcarra, Co. Mayo. Three test-trenches were targeted on the site of previously identified geophysical anomalies. These included an area of higher resistance which had an overall rectangular shape, which was in turn cut by a linear zone of lower resistance in the south-east area of the site. Nothing of archaeological significance was found in the trenches and the cause of the anomalous readings was found to be bedrock near the surface.
