Test-trenching, lasting two days, was carried out at the extension to a limestone quarry at Carrowoughteragh, Shrule, Co. Mayo. In total, 1273m² of test-trenches were excavated within the possible testing area of 38,700m. Excavation of nine test-trenches within the land-take of the proposed development failed to reveal either archaeological features or artifacts. In all trenches topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata.
