Test excavations were carried out on the footprint of a proposed nine-hole extension to Ballyhaunis Golf Club. Three possible archaeological features were found during testing, a possible togher and two burnt spreads. Further investigations were subsequently carried out under an extension to the licence, which found the burnt-mound material to be part of in situ fulachta fiadh, one measuring 19m by 8m and the other measuring 11m by 9m. The proposed course was redesigned to avoid impacting on the togher and full excavation of the fulachta fiadh prior to commencement of construction works was recommended.
