The second phase of monitoring of a development site at Killaghteen, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, was carried out in compliance with a condition of planning. The development consists of the construction of a ground-floor extension to the sides and rear of an existing dwelling, the addition of a porch to the front of the existing dwelling and the addition of a railing at the front boundary wall. The proposed development site is located within the zone of archaeological potential for a ringfort (LI036–059) which is located immediately north-west of the existing house. Monitoring of topsoil removal and the excavation of foundation trenches for boundary walls, house extensions and the septic tank was carried out in 2010. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were uncovered.
