Pre-development testing was carried out in advance of the construction of a single dwelling-house at Caldragh, Carrick-on-Shannon, located in close proximity to a large subcircular enclosure c. 80m in diameter (LE027–070). The monument is located entirely in the field to the north-west of the proposed development site and does not seem to extend into the field where the proposed development is to be located. A total of five trenches (10m by 1.8m) were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural subsoil. The excavation of the trenches across the proposed development site has revealed no evidence of archaeological activity within the footprint of the proposed development.
