It was proposed to build a new house in Milltown, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. The site lay adjacent to KK035–060, a cashel/motte (possible); no component of the proposed development lay within 30m of the monument and the proposed dwelling was proposed for the north-east side of the monument. An assessment including site testing was prepared as part of a response to a request for further information.
Nine test-trenches were excavated on the footprint of the proposed house site, septic tank and entrance driveway. The soil profiles in all of the trenches were relatively consistent. The results of the testing indicated that the proposed development would not have any impact on any potential archaeological resource of the site. There was no evidence for archaeological features or finds or any soil anomalies in any of the trenches excavated.
