Following an archaeological impact assessment in March 2008 the developer was granted full planning permission with a condition to undertake pre-development testing. The proposed development site was located within the zone of archaeological potential for Tralee town, KE029–119, and was also within an area of architectural conservation (Zone 5) as shown in the Town Development Plan (2003–2009), although No. 7 Church Street was not listed as a protected structure.
Three test-trenches were excavated across the development site by mechanical excavator with a grading bucket. All topsoil was spread out in a thin layer beside each trench to access the artefact potential from the site. No archaeological artefacts or features were recorded.
