An assessment and test-trenching was undertaken at this site, an undeveloped area within the boundaries of the Tarbert Generating Station, in response to a request for further information by the local authority. The development was located partially within the zone of archaeological potential for KE003–001 (star-shaped fort) as indicated by the Archaeological Survey of Ireland. In addition to the assessment of the site and its environs, five test-trenches were excavated to establish the extents of the monument. A ditch feature was exposed in three of the test-trenches and was interpreted as the outer ditch of KE003–001; the location and orientation of the ditch was comparable to that shown in the first-edition 6-inch OS mapping as well as the line of the ditch as shown hachured on the 1997 RMP constraint map. The outer edge of the ditch was cut through large shale boulders in the natural parent material.
