Sixty-three test-trenches were excavated in the townlands of Manor East and Camp, in the alluvial plain adjoining the River Lee, in advance of the construction of the N22 Tralee bypass. These works were carried out in addition to the works undertaken by Headland Archaeology Ltd along the entire scheme.
A fulacht fiadh was recorded over the alluvial clay at Camp (Camp 5). It averaged 9.2m in diameter and, where tested, was found to be 0.23m in thickness. The fulacht fiadh consisted of black clayey silt and burnt stone with much charcoal. No traces of a trough were recorded during testing. Two stone-lined culverts also truncated the monument.
A stone platform was also discovered at Manor East (Manor East 7), where worked wood was previously identified. This stone platform extended across one of the test-trenches and covered an area of 8m2. The stones range from small cobble size to larger stones (c. 0.36m x 0.16m x 0.15m). Both sites were recommended for excavation as part of the main works for the N22 Tralee bypass.
