A series of nineteen test excavation trenches (2040m in total length), 1m in width and with a 10m spacing, were opened across a proposed development site of 8.85 acres in the townland of Dromroe, Causeway, Co. Kerry. In general only a thin cover of soil (0.05–0.1m) was present across much of the site, although in the three north-eastern trenches (in the area fully enclosed by mature trees) better soil cover was present, averaging c. 0.25m, and was of a peaty consistency. The thin soil cover overlay natural yellow/grey boulder clay with frequent cobbles. Several land drainage pipes were recorded across the entirety of the site while a few earth-dug drains were also noted, one of which was probably a 19th-century field boundary. No archaeological features or artifacts were noted.
