A test excavation was undertaken at the request of Kerry County Council to determine the outer extent of a levelled ringfort (KE011–018) at Bunagarha, Listowel, Co. Kerry. The testing was also carried out to assess the level of damage, if any, which has occurred to the monument as a result of the construction of three houses and associated site services on or adjacent to the levelled monument.
Four test-trenches were excavated across the suspected line of the enclosing ditch of the ringfort. The subsurface ditch was exposed in each trench and the outer extent of the monument was established. No damage to the ringfort ditch was noted in Trenches 1–4. Metal detecting of the spoil from the excavated trenches did not record any hits and no artifacts were recovered.
