Test-trenching was carried out across the site of a proposed wind farm in an area of marginal, open grazing farmland at Barnastooka, Kilgarvan. The proposed wind farm will comprise fourteen wind turbines, 5.95km of new (5m-wide) access tracks, a control building compound and a temporary works compound. There are no recorded archaeological monuments within the overall landholding for the wind farm. Trenches were excavated on the footprint of the turbine base locations, access tracks, control building, hardstands and on all other areas upon which ground-reduction works are proposed. No archaeological features or artifacts were identified within the test-trenches. Two previously unrecorded circular drystone hut sites were noted on the ground surface in the southern end of the overall landholding. These huts will not be impacted on by the proposed development but it was recommended that they be clearly cordoned off during construction works to prevent any accidental disturbance.
