Further monitoring was carried out in various townlands as part of the Galway group water schemes Bundle 6, Menlough scheme. The proposed development entails the improvement of water treatment facilities and distribution networks for water supplies in the vicinity of Menlough, Co. Galway.
Testing was carried out in February 2009 in the vicinity of GA059–016 (ringfort) in the townland of Cloonmweelaun, GA059–045 (church and graveyard), in the townland of Killoscobe and GA059–060 (children’s burial-ground) and in the townland of Skehanagh, Co. Galway. Furthermore it was agreed that twelve areas of particular archaeological potential be monitored.
The programme of works commenced in March and continued to August 2010. Generally works involved the mechanical excavation of a 1.2m-deep by 0.6m-wide trench to accommodate a 0.2–0.3m pipe. All of the works took place along existing routeways or road verges. No material of archaeological significance was identified during the programme of monitoring in the vicinity of the monuments.
