Test excavations were carried out on the north-west and south-west of the campus at the proposed location of four new structures. Five test-trenches were opened on the north-west and south-west of the site and these all revealed modern fill deposits and evidence for previous ground disturbance and no archaeological features or finds were identified.

Monitoring was carried out on the north-east end of the site, where a grid of foundation pads (1.2m by 1.2m) for temporary buildings were excavated over an area of 59m by 30m. Subsoil was 0.4m below present ground and no archaeological features or finds were identified. Topsoil-stripping across the site compound (70m by 35m) on the north-west end of the site, immediately outside the constraint area for Belvedere House, DU018–012, was also monitored. A ceramic drain was the only feature of note uncovered here.
