Testing, which took five days to complete, was undertaken at the National Children Detention Facilities, Oberstown, Lusk, Co. Dublin, on a site measuring approximately 21.5ha. The excavation of eleven test-trenches located throughout the western and southern ends of the proposed development area failed to reveal any archaeological features or artifacts. On all occasions topsoil directly sealed geologically deposited strata. Two modern stone drains and a field boundary were recorded as part of the test-trenching exercise. It was not possible to excavate trenches in the north or east of the site and it is proposed that these areas will be investigated at a later date. No archaeological features or artifacts were revealed as a result of testing.
