The development site, 115m south-west/north-east by 70m, was situated on the west side of The Green in the angle with Hands Lane, on the north-west fringe of the village (Td. Regles), in a field unchanged from the first-edition 6-inch OS map. The site lies immediately outside the zone of archaeological potential around Lusk, DU008–010. Testing took place in March 2010 on the sites for three detached houses and percolation areas in fulfilment of a condition of planning permission.
Test-trenches, total length 151m, produced similar results with 0.4m of topsoil overlying natural stony clay subsoil. There was evidence for only minimal previous disturbance in the form of closely spaced plough furrows, 0.3m wide and set 0.2m apart, evident in the subsoil running downslope, and one land drain.
