The site is located at No. 19 Benagh Road, near Mayobridge, Co. Down. The proposed development concerns the construction of a two-story dwelling with garage, a laneway for access and associated services. The proposed development site lies within an archaeologically sensitive area with 16 recorded sites within a 1km radius, one of which, a rath and souterrain (DOW 047–051), is located within the boundaries of the development, 45m south-east of the application site for the proposed dwelling. As part of a comprehensive testing regime agreed with Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), six test-trenches were machine excavated across the proposed development. However, apart from the presence of field drains, no deposits of archaeological potential were uncovered.
