Five trenches (each measuring roughly 20m in length by 2m in width) were mechanically excavated at this site in advance of development. The proposed development is in the historic core of Kilkeel town, as well as being in the vicinity of a medieval ecclesiastical foundation. The five trenches were excavated to the surface of the natural subsoil, with nothing of archaeological significance being noted in any of the trenches.
