Monitoring of groundworks associated with the upgrading of a wastewater treatment works at Ballymonie, Foreglen, Co. Derry, took place intermittently on 9–21 June and 1–2 July and 2 August 2010 on behalf of the client NI Water. The waste water treatment works is located within an archaeologically sensitive area with twelve archaeological sites within a 1.5km radius of the proposed development. Monitoring took place of the bulk excavation of a large portion of the northern half of the site and a small area at the south-west. In addition a trench was excavated along the Foreglen road and into the site to facilitate a new sewage pipe. This too was monitored. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
