An assessment at Scart townland, Mallow, Co. Cork, was undertaken in advance of a proposed extension to an existing quarry development. A total of 29 test-trenches were excavated. A geophysical survey had previously been undertaken at the site and had identified a number of areas of archaeological potential within the site boundary. The test-trenches had a combined length of approximately 4158 linear metres. Trench layout was adapted to investigate areas of archaeological potential.
Four archaeological sites were identified during this assessment. Three were ring-ditches located during the geophysical survey, which test excavation confirmed as archaeological deposits. The fourth site was a previously unidentified bowl furnace. None of the sites were visible at ground level.
